A wedding gift is a great way to acknowledge the new union between two special people. It is your way of not just saying congratulations but it also shows the couple that you wish them many blessings as they go forward in your new life together. A wedding gift can take the form of many things – it all depends on what the couple wants or likes. By this I mean if the couple has taken the time to register at a department store like Macy's or Target then your wedding gift options are pretty much already chosen for you. With a bridal registry, a guest or shopper wishing to purchase a present for the newlyweds simply has to retrieve the list from the retailer and choose from the options that are listed. If a registry exists, then you cannot go wrong with one of these gifts – it is what the couple really wants and has a preference for.
There are times when the couple has not registered with a retailer for one reason or another. During instances like these then it is up to the purchaser to determine what the couple might need for a wedding gift. In order to know the answer to this, you must first know the answer to a few questions. First, is this a young couple? Second, is this their first marriage? If the answer to these two questions is yes then you know that a young couple getting married for the first time needs things for their home like a food processor, comforter sets for their bedroom, a set of dishes, glasses or even cutlery. On the other hand, if the couple is an older couple with one or both parties being married before and maybe one or both parties has children from their previous marriages, then you know that chances are, they don't need the usual start-up gifts for the home. In this case, wedding gift purchases can include a new set to be added to their already existing China, a new lamp or even a new painting. For both couples, money is always a great wedding gift because it gives the couple the option to buy whatever they want.
A union as important as a marriage is worth celebrating regardless what type of wedding gift is given or received. It is however, always nice to try to present the special couple with something that they truly need – whether it's something from their registry or not.
